Kerala Waqf board row: IUML chief plays down reconstitution concerns

The leadership of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) has moved to defuse controversy surrounding the reconstitution of the Kerala Waqf board, claiming the process has been inclusive of key Muslim organizations in the state. Syed Sadikali Shihab Thangal, the IUML's Kerala chief, stated that all major Muslim bodies have been given representation on the reconstituted board. In an attempt to address concerns from organizations left out of the current structure, Thangal suggested that such groups could be considered for membership in other statutory bodies or committees. The remarks come amid ongoing discussions about representation in Kerala's religious and community institutions. The IUML, a key constituent of Kerala's ruling coalition, has sought to balance competing interests among different Muslim organizations while maintaining administrative coherence in the management of Waqf properties and institutions across the state.
