Kerala Water Authority cracks down on Pipeline Road encroachments

The Kerala Water Authority (KWA) has launched a comprehensive drive to clear unauthorized constructions and encroachments along Pipeline Road, which carries essential water distribution infrastructure serving multiple districts in the state. Officials said the clearance operation is necessary to safeguard the integrity of underground and overhead pipelines that form the backbone of Kerala's water supply network.

The authority has identified numerous violations along the corridor, including residential structures, commercial establishments, and temporary constructions that have been erected without authorization. These encroachments not only pose risks to the water infrastructure but also obstruct KWA's ability to conduct routine maintenance, repairs, and emergency interventions when required.

KWA teams have begun systematic surveys and documentation of violations across affected stretches of Pipeline Road. The authority has issued notices to occupants of encroaching structures, providing them with specified periods to voluntarily remove their constructions before enforcement action is initiated.

Officals emphasized that the encroachment removal exercise is part of the authority's ongoing efforts to strengthen water security and infrastructure management across the state. The drive is expected to facilitate smoother operations and reduce service disruptions caused by unauthorized developments near critical pipeline corridors.
