Kiwis abroad can cast votes for 2026 election from Wednesday
New Zealanders living or travelling overseas will be able to vote in the country's 2026 general election starting Wednesday, several days ahead of domestic advance voting.

WELLINGTON — Expatriate New Zealanders can begin casting their votes for the 2026 general election from Wednesday, giving overseas voters an early opportunity to participate in the ballot.
The early voting window for New Zealanders abroad opens several days before advance voting commences within New Zealand itself. This staggered approach allows international voters, who may face logistical challenges in returning home or accessing polling stations, to vote on a timeline suited to their circumstances.
The Electoral Commission has established mechanisms for overseas voters to participate, reflecting the significant number of New Zealanders residing or temporarily located outside the country. The advance voting period within New Zealand is scheduled to begin the following week, providing domestic voters with a comparable window to cast their ballots ahead of election day.
The 2026 general election will determine New Zealand's next government following the expiry of the current parliamentary term.
