KL Department of Environment alerts suppliers to fraudulent procurement scheme
The Kuala Lumpur Department of Environment has issued a warning following a spike in fake procurement scams targeting local suppliers. Two companies have reportedly lost more than RM200,000 in the scheme.

KUALA LUMPUR — The Kuala Lumpur Department of Environment (DOE) has alerted suppliers and businesses to exercise heightened vigilance following multiple attempted fraud cases involving counterfeit procurement schemes.
The department detected the scams after two suppliers fell victim to the fraudulent operations, collectively losing more than RM200,000. The incidents underscore growing risks faced by companies conducting business in the capital as criminals exploit procurement channels to siphon funds.
The DOE has advised suppliers to verify all procurement requests through official channels before processing payments or commitments. Businesses are encouraged to contact the department directly to authenticate any purchasing orders purporting to originate from government agencies or established entities.
Authorities are investigating the cases and have urged other potential victims to come forward. The department has also advised companies to implement stricter verification protocols and to report suspicious procurement activities to relevant law enforcement agencies. Residents and business operators can lodge complaints with the DOE or the Royal Malaysia Police for further investigation.
