KLIA Customs seizes RM1 million in drugs hidden in shipments

SEPANG — The Royal Malaysian Customs Department at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has successfully intercepted two separate shipments containing illicit drugs with an estimated street value of RM1 million, the agency announced on Sunday.

Customs officers discovered the narcotics during routine inspections of incoming cargo shipments, where traffickers had attempted to conceal the contraband within seemingly innocuous packaging. Cannabis and ketamine were found hidden among shoes, children's toys, and tool kits destined for various addresses within Malaysia.

The concealment method reflects common smuggling tactics employed by drug trafficking networks attempting to evade detection at international entry points. The seizures underscore the Customs Department's ongoing vigilance in monitoring cargo flows through the nation's primary international airport.

Both shipments have been secured as evidence, and investigations are underway to identify the recipients and source of the contraband. The Royal Malaysian Customs Department urged the public to report any suspicious shipments or smuggling activities to authorities.
