KLIA provides relief facilities as Jakarta flights disrupted by volcanic ash

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 6 — Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) has activated contingency measures to assist travellers affected by disruptions to Jakarta services, establishing dedicated resting facilities for affected passengers following a volcanic ash event that forced Indonesian airport closures.
The airport operator said passengers on flights bound for the Indonesian capital are being provided with rest areas and updated information as airlines work to manage flight schedules in response to the ashfall from Mount Anak Krakatau. KLIA urged travellers to remain in contact with their respective airlines for the latest developments regarding flight operations.
The volcanic event triggered the temporary shutdown of airports in the Jakarta region, creating a cascading effect on regional air services. Airlines operating Malaysian routes to Jakarta have been adjusting their flight schedules accordingly as authorities assess conditions at destination airports.
MAA, the operator of KLIA, advised passengers to check with their airlines before proceeding to the airport and to allow additional time for any changes to travel arrangements. The airport said it was coordinating with relevant authorities to monitor the situation and ensure minimal disruption to other services.
