Kochi deploys 1,500 police for Onam festivities security push

Kochi police have mobilized 1,500 personnel across the city as part of comprehensive security arrangements during the ongoing Onam celebrations, one of South India's most significant festivals. The deployment reflects authorities' commitment to maintaining public order while allowing residents and visitors to celebrate freely.

Security infrastructure has been substantially strengthened with picket points established at 102 strategic locations throughout the metropolitan area. Patrol intensification is particularly focused on high-footfall venues including bar hotels and DJ party locations where large gatherings are anticipated during the festive period.

The police have deployed 24 control room vehicles, four specialized Pink Patrol vehicles dedicated to women's safety, and one highway patrol vehicle to ensure rapid response capabilities across different zones. These mobile units will operate continuously as crowds surge during peak festival days.

Enhancing surveillance capabilities, the entire city has been brought under closed-circuit television monitoring to facilitate real-time incident detection and response. The integrated approach combining ground-level policing with technological oversight aims to create a secure environment for celebrations while deterring antisocial activities that sometimes accompany large public gatherings during festivals.
