Kochi Corporation is moving forward with a sewerage connectivity programme in Division 59, with plans to link 800 houses to a new sewerage treatment plant (STP) by the end of the year. The initiative represents a significant step in improving sanitation infrastructure across the division, addressing long-standing gaps in waste management services.
The new STP, when fully commissioned, is expected to service around 1,800 households across the division. Officials have prioritized the phased rollout to ensure efficient installation and system stability. The first phase of connections will cover 800 properties, representing approximately half of the targeted beneficiaries.
The project aligns with broader urban sanitation initiatives aimed at improving public health and environmental standards across Kerala's capital. Sewerage connectivity has emerged as a critical infrastructure need in rapidly urbanizing areas of Kochi, where population density has outpaced existing waste management systems.
Corporation officials have urged residents in Division 59 to prepare for the upcoming connections and comply with required protocols. The December deadline reflects the corporation's commitment to completing the first phase of installations within the current fiscal year.
