Kochi launches nutrition support scheme for TB patients

The Kochi Corporation has announced plans to distribute nutrient kits to tuberculosis patients as part of a wider disease management programme aimed at accelerating TB elimination in the city. The initiative, to be funded through Corporate Social Responsibility allocations, will provide essential nutritional support to diagnosed patients during their treatment regimen.

Under the three-month intensive campaign, the civic body will organise awareness and screening camps across its jurisdiction to identify TB cases and ensure timely medical intervention. These camps will also facilitate contact tracing and treatment initiation for individuals who have been exposed to confirmed TB patients, a critical step in breaking transmission chains.

The nutritional support component addresses a documented challenge in TB treatment outcomes, as malnutrition can impede recovery and medication efficacy. By coupling detection drives with nutrient provision, the Corporation aims to improve treatment adherence and patient recovery rates across Kochi.

The programme underscores the city's commitment to meeting India's ambitious TB elimination targets. Officials indicated that the initiative represents a collaborative approach, leveraging corporate partnerships to augment public health resources and reach vulnerable populations within municipal limits.
