Kochi Mayor calls emergency meeting to address Champakkara accident hotspot

Kochi's Mayor has initiated an emergency meeting to tackle the recurring traffic accidents at Champakkara, a location that has emerged as a persistent concern for road safety in the city. The meeting will bring together senior officials from the Kochi City Police traffic wing, Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) and the Public Works Department (PWD) to formulate a coordinated response.

The repeated incidents at the junction have raised alarm among residents and commuters, highlighting infrastructure and traffic management challenges at the intersection. The convergence of metro construction activities, regular vehicular traffic and pedestrian movement has created complex conditions at the site.

The inter-departmental meeting aims to identify immediate remedial measures and develop a comprehensive action plan. Officials are expected to review current traffic signalling, road markings, speed regulation zones and ongoing metro rail construction protocols that may be contributing to accident frequency.
