The highway stretch has emerged as one of the most congested segments within Kerala's national highway network, marked by multiple junction bottlenecks that constrain vehicular movement and economic activity.

The proposed metro extension would provide a mass transit alternative to the heavily burdened road corridor, potentially reducing vehicle volumes and easing congestion.
