Kochi police consider enhanced charges against bus worker arrested for intimidation

Muhammed Ansar, employed by a private bus operator in Kochi, was taken into custody on Monday following a series of incidents involving road users and law enforcement. Authorities have registered cases against him for the alleged intimidation of at least two motorists, along with an assault on a policeman who was on active duty at the time.

Kochi City Police have indicated they are examining the possibility of invoking the Kerala Anti-Social Activities Act (KAAPA) in connection with the charges. The stringent provisions of KAAPA are typically invoked in cases involving persistent threats, intimidation, or violence that pose a threat to public order and safety.

The arrest follows what police described as escalating incidents of aggressive behavior on Kochi's roads. Preliminary investigations suggest a pattern of conduct that authorities believe warrants more serious legal action beyond standard criminal charges. The decision on whether to formally proceed with KAAPA charges is currently under review by senior police officials.

The case adds to ongoing concerns about road rage and public safety in the city. Police have appealed to citizens to report any similar incidents and cooperate with law enforcement investigations.
