Kochi startup unveils 103 new Malayalam fonts for digital design

A Kochi-based technology startup has introduced 103 new Malayalam fonts, marking a significant expansion in digital typography options for speakers of the South Indian language. Bigates.ai unveiled the collection with font names derived from their visual characteristics, making them intuitive for designers and content creators to identify and select.

The fonts are currently available in FML format, a specification optimized for design software applications. This format enables seamless integration into popular design platforms, facilitating the creation of posters, social media graphics, and other digital content in Malayalam.

The initiative addresses a gap in Malayalam digital typography, where font options have historically been limited compared to major international languages. By offering a diverse range of stylized fonts, the startup aims to enhance the visual presentation of Malayalam-language content across digital platforms.

The launch reflects growing momentum in regional language technology solutions across India, where startups are increasingly developing tools and resources to support content creation in Indian languages. The availability of expanded font libraries enables designers, publishers, and social media creators to produce more varied and visually appealing Malayalam-language materials.
