Kochi to Deploy Mobile Dog Sterilisation Units for Equitable Coverage
The Kochi Corporation is considering deploying mobile animal birth control units across the city to address complaints of unequal access to sterilisation services. West Kochi councillors have long alleged that stray dog control operations favour certain areas over others.

Kochi Corporation authorities are exploring the introduction of mobile ABC (Animal Birth Control) units to ensure more balanced coverage of stray dog sterilisation across the city. The move comes after persistent complaints from West Kochi representatives, who have highlighted disparities in the corporation's current dog control operations.
The existing ABC Centre at Brahmapuram has served as the primary facility for sterilisation and population management of stray dogs. However, councillors from the western parts of the city have contended that the centralised location has resulted in certain wards receiving inadequate attention, leading to uneven implementation of animal control measures across Kochi.
By establishing mobile units, the corporation aims to decentralise operations and bring sterilisation services closer to different neighbourhoods. This approach would enable more systematic and equitable coverage of the city's stray dog population while addressing the regional disparities raised by elected representatives.
The corporation has not yet announced a timeline for implementing the mobile units or details regarding resource allocation. Officials are currently in the planning stages to determine operational feasibility and the number of units required to provide comprehensive coverage across all municipal wards.
