Kochi to prioritise water pipeline replacement in western zones

SUEZ, which operates and maintains the Kerala Water Authority's pipeline network across Kochi Corporation, has recommended prioritising the replacement of leaky pipes in the city's western zones following a detailed infrastructure survey. The assessment identified significant water loss and potential contamination concerns in these areas, prompting recommendations for expedited remedial action.

The survey findings underscore mounting challenges facing the Corporation's water distribution system, where ageing infrastructure continues to compromise service quality and public health. Officials have acknowledged that systematic replacement of the most problematic sections would help reduce non-revenue water loss and minimise risks of contamination entering the supply network.

Kerala Water Authority and civic authorities are expected to review SUEZ's recommendations to chart a timeline for the replacement programme.
