Kolkata Airport: CISF Seizes $119,900 in Undeclared Foreign Currency

KOLKATA — Security personnel at Kolkata Airport have seized foreign currency valued at $119,900 (approximately Rs 1.13 crore) from two passengers attempting to travel abroad, officials said Tuesday.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) recovered the undeclared US dollars from the passengers' baggage during routine screening operations. The currency was reportedly wrapped in newspapers as the travelers prepared to board a Bhutan Airlines flight bound for Bangkok.

The passengers were detained by airport authorities following the discovery. The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by security agencies to prevent unauthorized movement of foreign currency across Indian borders. Individuals are permitted to carry foreign currency beyond specified limits only with proper authorization from relevant authorities.

The incident comes as India's customs and security agencies continue to strengthen surveillance at major airports to check illicit currency movement and maintain compliance with foreign exchange regulations. Authorities said the matter is being investigated further to determine the source of the funds and the passengers' intentions.
