KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — Security personnel at Marbel 7 National High School confiscated a knife from a student during Tuesday morning classes, marking an early success in the city's new safety protocols. The discovery underscores heightened vigilance at schools throughout the region as administrators implement stricter security measures in response to recent violence.
The increased security measures were triggered by a shooting incident in Banga town on Friday that resulted in three student fatalities and six additional injuries. Following the incident, city officials initiated a comprehensive safety assessment across all educational institutions, prompting schools to adopt enhanced screening procedures and increased staff monitoring.
The confiscation at Marbel 7 National High School came as students returned to classes after the weekend. School administrators did not disclose details regarding the weapon's intended use or whether disciplinary action would be taken against the student in possession.
Education officials in South Cotabato have indicated that the security enhancements will remain in place as investigations into last Friday's shooting continue. The province has seen increased scrutiny on school safety protocols in recent months, with parents and administrators expressing concerns about student welfare.
