Traffic police in Kozhikode city have unveiled a comprehensive action plan to enforce stricter traffic regulations during the busy Onam period, with enforcement measures set to begin August 20 and continue through August 31.
As part of the initiative, special enforcement squads will be positioned across the city to monitor compliance with traffic norms and curb violations. The deployment aims to manage the anticipated surge in vehicle movement as residents travel for festival celebrations and shopping activities.
Authorities are leveraging technology to enhance surveillance and detection capabilities. Digital cameras and drone surveillance have been positioned at key locations to record traffic violations, enabling authorities to track offenders even when ground-based patrols are unable to intervene immediately.
The multi-pronged approach reflects Kozhikode police's strategy to balance smooth traffic flow with public safety during one of Kerala's most significant festivals. Officials have indicated that the enforcement drive will prioritize accident prevention and congestion mitigation on major arterial roads and commercial areas expected to see peak traffic during the Onam season.
