Kremlin expresses hope Trump will maintain Ukraine peace push

Moscow has expressed optimism that incoming changes in US Congress will not derail President Trump's diplomatic initiatives on Ukraine, even as observers anticipate a shift in American support for Kyiv under Democratic control.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated that groundwork for negotiations remains solid, pointing to trilateral talks scheduled for Abu Dhabi involving representatives from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States. "Another round of trilateral negotiations is set to take place very soon," Peskov said of the planned discussions.

Despite warnings from analysts that Democratic leadership could bolster aid to Ukraine, the Kremlin has indicated it sees the diplomatic framework as resilient. Peskov also highlighted what he described as "successful humanitarian peace-building efforts" by US First Lady Melania Trump, suggesting Russia views such channels as valuable.

The comments reflect Moscow's apparent calculation that diplomatic momentum can survive domestic political shifts in Washington. Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine, now in its fifth year, continues to generate international concern, with negotiations remaining a focal point of diplomatic efforts between the major powers.
