KTMB cargo locomotive catches fire on Johor rail route

JOHOR BAHRU — The cargo train locomotive ignited while in transit along the route connecting the two Johor towns, prompting a swift response from KTMB personnel and emergency services. The fire was contained and extinguished without incident, according to the state-owned railway operator.

KTMB confirmed that all passengers and personnel aboard the train were accounted for and unharmed following the blaze. The incident did not result in any casualties or significant injuries, the operator said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. KTMB did not immediately provide details regarding service disruptions or alternative arrangements for freight operations on the affected corridor.

The incident marks another operational challenge for KTMB's cargo services, which play a crucial role in Malaysia's domestic freight network. The operator has faced ongoing scrutiny regarding maintenance standards and safety protocols across its fleet.
