Kuala Lumpur's Little India to host major Deepavali celebrations with PM Anwar

The Little India district in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, is set to light up with Deepavali festivities on November 14, with celebrations running from 8 am until 11:30 pm. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the event, underscoring the significance of the occasion in Malaysia's multicultural calendar.

The extended operating hours will allow residents and visitors to experience the full spectrum of Deepavali observances throughout the day and evening. The festival, also known as Diwali, marks the victory of light over darkness and is celebrated by Hindu, Sikh, and Buddhist communities across Malaysia and South Asia.

Brickfields, home to Malaysia's largest concentration of Indian-origin residents and businesses, has long been a focal point for Deepavali celebrations. The neighbourhood's commercial district typically hosts cultural programmes, religious observances, and community gatherings during the festive season.

The Prime Minister's attendance highlights the government's commitment to recognising and supporting religious and cultural celebrations across Malaysia's diverse communities. Such official participation reinforces national unity during significant festival periods observed by various Malaysian populations.
