Kuantan woman loses RM1.15m in romance scam operation
A farmer and agricultural trader in Kuantan fell victim to an elaborate romance scam syndicate, losing more than RM1.15 million in the process. Authorities are investigating the case as part of ongoing efforts to combat investment and relationship fraud schemes in the state.

The victim, a woman engaged in farming and agricultural product trading in Kuantan, discovered she had been systematically defrauded after developing what she believed to be a romantic relationship with someone she met online. The scammers used the relationship as a pretext to convince her to make multiple financial transfers under the guise of various investment opportunities and personal emergencies.
Over the course of their communications, the perpetrators employed sophisticated social engineering tactics to build trust and lower the victim's defenses. They reportedly presented themselves as legitimate businesspeople or investors, encouraging the woman to commit increasingly larger sums of money with promises of substantial returns.
Once the woman realized the extent of the deception, she reported the matter to local police. The case has been registered as a romance scam and investment fraud incident, adding to the growing number of such complaints received by authorities in Pahang state.
Police have urged the public to exercise caution when engaging with unknown individuals online, particularly those who quickly advance to discussions of romance or investment opportunities. Authorities recommend verifying the identities of online contacts through official channels and avoiding financial transactions with unverified individuals, regardless of the relationship dynamics involved.
