The advisory comes after a section of Jalan Mendu experienced a structural failure, prompting municipal officials to inspect drainage-related construction practices across the city. Authorities expressed concern that unauthorised structures over drains pose risks to public safety and infrastructure integrity.
Property owners seeking to construct or modify structures in areas with drainage systems must obtain written approval from MBKS before proceeding with work, according to the council's guidelines. The council has indicated it will conduct compliance checks across residential and commercial areas to identify unauthorised encroachments.
