Emergency repair work on a major water pipeline in Kuching has been completed, with Sarawak Water announcing a staged restoration of supply to affected areas. The utility warned that full normalisation of water pressure may take several days.

Repair works on the 750mm mild steel cement-lined water main along Jalan Lapangan Terbang have concluded, Sarawak Water said on Wednesday. The critical pipeline, which supplies water to several districts in the state capital, had suffered a significant breach requiring urgent intervention.
The utility stated that water supply would be restored in phases rather than all at once, to prevent system instability and allow pressure to stabilise gradually across the network. Sarawak Water did not provide a specific timeline for complete restoration but indicated that consumers should expect supply to normalise over the coming days.
Residents and businesses in the affected zones were advised to exercise patience as engineers monitor the system's performance during the staged restart. Sarawak Water urged consumers to report any continued disruptions or water quality issues to its customer service hotline.
The pipeline failure had disrupted supply to numerous households and commercial establishments in the area. The state utility's decision to stagger the restoration process reflects standard industry practice aimed at minimising the risk of further damage to the ageing water infrastructure network.
