The Kuki Zo Council (KZC) has called for an investigation into the death of a woman killed during an alleged militant ambush in Kamjong district of Manipur on Thursday. According to the KZC statement, four Kuki-Zo villagers were traveling from Molvailup to Phaikoh when they came under fire around 4 p.m., resulting in casualties.
The council attributed the attack to cadres of the National Socialist Council of Manipur-Isak-Muivah (NSCN-IM), though the militant group's involvement has not been independently verified. The incident adds to mounting tensions in the northeastern state, where ethnic and armed group violence has persisted in recent years.
Kamjong district, located in the hills of Manipur's eastern region, has witnessed sporadic clashes between various ethnic groups and militant organizations. The KZC's demand for a thorough investigation underscores concerns within the Kuki community about security and accountability for violence affecting civilians.
No official statement from state authorities or the alleged perpetrators has been released regarding the incident. The development comes amid broader efforts to address communal violence and restore peace in the volatile region.
