Former Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Wednesday levelled serious allegations against an IAS officer, claiming the bureaucrat sought a bribe to halt his transfer posting. Speaking to journalists in Hassan after visiting the Hasanamba temple, Kumaraswamy disclosed what he characterized as evidence supporting his claim. The politician referenced extracts from written communications, including WhatsApp messages, which he stated demonstrated the officer's attempt to secure financial consideration in exchange for intervention in the transfer process. Kumaraswamy did not immediately specify the officer's identity or the exact amount allegedly demanded, but indicated he possessed documentary proof of the exchange. The allegations add to ongoing concerns about administrative transparency and ethics within Karnataka's bureaucratic system, areas that have faced intermittent scrutiny in recent years. Such claims of corruption within the civil service, if substantiated, could trigger investigations by appropriate authorities including the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
