The road closure at Kurugoda Junction, located near the 7th Milepost in Akurana, has been implemented to facilitate the safe removal of heavy vehicles from the accident scene. Sri Lanka Police confirmed that recovery and clearance operations are essential before normal traffic flow can resume on the main arterial route.
The Kandy–Jaffna Road, also known as the A-09 highway, serves as a critical transportation corridor in the Central Province. Motorists have been advised to anticipate delays and consider alternative routes during the period of closure.
Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the circumstances of the fatal accident or the number of casualties at this stage. The Police said additional information would be released once recovery operations are completed and investigations progress.
