Kyrgios accepts one-month ban after cocaine test at Spain tournament

The International Tennis Integrity Association announced Thursday that Kyrgios had agreed to the disciplinary action after testing positive for the banned substance at the Spanish event. Kyrgios had been provisionally suspended since August 4, with the positive test revealed publicly two weeks later.

According to the ITIA, Kyrgios told investigators he used cocaine socially during a night out prior to competing in Mallorca. The organisation accepted his account that the substance was used outside of competition, and in consultation with the World Anti-Doping Agency, determined his suspension could be reduced from the standard three-month period to one month upon completion of a treatment program.

The Australian tennis player's suspension ended Thursday following his completion of the mandated program. However, he has forfeited all prize money and ranking points earned at the Mallorca event, where he suffered a first-round defeat to compatriot Adam Walton.

Kyrgios, a 2022 Wimbledon finalist who lost the championship match to Novak Djokovic, has had limited tournament appearances in recent seasons due to various injuries and personal circumstances.
