SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — La Union Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega has been sworn in as the new chair of the Regional Peace and Order Council (RPOC) for Ilocos Region, marking a significant administrative transition in the region's governance structure.
Ortega took his oath of office during a ceremony held Monday at the La Union provincial Capitol. Jonathan Paul M. Leusen Jr., regional director of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, administered the oath, underscoring the national significance of the leadership transition.
The Regional Peace and Order Council serves as the primary coordinating body for security, law enforcement, and public safety initiatives across the Ilocos Region. The council brings together key provincial officials, law enforcement representatives, and other stakeholders to address peace and order concerns at the regional level.
Ortega's assumption of the chairmanship reflects the rotating leadership structure of regional peace councils, which typically elevate provincial governors to the position based on established protocols and administrative schedules.
