CALASIAO, Pangasinan — Authorities in La Union have raised alarm over the growing use of artificial intelligence to produce deceptive images portraying individuals wearing Philippine National Police uniforms and displaying official insignia.
The provincial government moved to address the issue through Provincial Resolution No. 2463-2026, which cautions the public against creating, sharing, or utilizing AI-generated imagery that incorporates police uniforms, identification cards, or other official PNP markings.
The resolution underscores concern over the unchecked proliferation of misleading content that could facilitate fraud, impersonation, or other crimes exploiting the trust associated with law enforcement credentials. Officials warned that such images pose risks to public security and could be weaponized for scams or misinformation campaigns.
The provincial government called on residents and online users to report instances of suspicious AI-generated police imagery to authorities. The measure represents a growing effort across the Philippines to address the challenges posed by advanced artificial intelligence technology in an environment where digital literacy remains uneven.
