BACOLOD CITY — The National Wages and Productivity Commission (NWPC), headed by Labor Secretary Francis Tolentino, has approved a new wage order granting private sector workers in Western Visayas and Negros Occidental a daily minimum wage increase of P40 to P45.
The wage adjustment was forwarded to the NWPC by the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) 6, which is tasked with recommending wage levels for the region. RTWPB-6 chairman Sixto Rodriguez Jr. confirmed the board's recommendation, which underwent consultation with representatives from labor, management, and government sectors.
The approval marks the latest in a series of wage adjustments implemented across the Philippines to help workers cope with rising living costs. The increase is expected to take effect following the standard compliance period mandated by the Department of Labor and Employment.
The wage order applies to all private sector establishments in the region, though certain industries and businesses may be subject to exemptions based on existing labor policies. Workers in covered sectors are expected to benefit from the adjustment within the coming weeks.
