India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has underscored that stability along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) remains a prerequisite for normalising relations with China, warning that any disturbances along the frontier will have consequences. Speaking at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum on Tuesday, Jaishankar said the Indian position to Beijing is unambiguous: maintaining a stable border is fundamental to progressing other aspects of the bilateral relationship. "If you want a normal relationship, if the rest of the relationship is to move, it's common sense that the boundary has to be stable and that we need peace and tranquillity in the border areas," he stated. The minister noted that expansion of trade and investment cooperation between the two nations is contingent upon maintaining border peace. Jaishankar observed that the situation along the LAC has "settled down" considerably since 2024, with the relationship "commensurately moving towards normalcy." He indicated that both nations have recently implemented a series of confidence-building measures aimed at repairing ties that were strained by border tensions in previous years.
