Ladakh administration directs halt to unauthorised activities at Wangchuk school

The Ladakh administration has instructed Gitanjali Angmo, wife of education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, to discontinue what it terms unauthorised activities at their school in Leh. The notice follows efforts by the family to regularise the institution's governance structure through proper administrative channels.

On September 22, Angmo approached the Deputy Commissioner of Leh seeking a No Objection Certificate and official approval for the proposed members of the school's Managing Committee. The request signals an attempt to bring the institution into compliance with local administrative requirements and formal oversight procedures.

The matter highlights the evolving relationship between Wangchuk's educational initiatives and local regulatory authorities. The administration's directive underscores the need for proper documentation and approval processes for educational institutions operating within the union territory.

Wangchuk, known for pioneering alternative education models in Ladakh, has been at the forefront of educational reform in the region. The current administrative action reflects broader questions about institutional governance and the balance between grassroots educational initiatives and formal regulatory frameworks in the remote Himalayan territory.
