Ladakh must harness unique strengths for sustainable development: NITI Aayog

Lahiri underscored the importance of leveraging Ladakh's inherent strengths to create meaningful livelihood opportunities for residents during a comprehensive review meeting held Saturday with senior territorial administrators.

Chief Secretary Ashish Kundra briefed the NITI Aayog leadership on Ladakh's financial position and economic challenges, presenting sector-wise data on Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP), Gross State Value Addition (GSVA) and employment indicators across the region.

The meeting, which included senior administrative officers, focused on evaluating ongoing projects and addressing critical gaps across infrastructure, connectivity, education, tourism, energy, water resources and employment generation.

Lahiri's emphasis on balancing development with environmental stewardship reflects concerns about preserving Ladakh's ecological integrity while advancing economic growth. The Union territory's high-altitude ecosystem and rich Buddhist-Islamic cultural tapestry position it uniquely for sustainable tourism and clean energy initiatives, officials noted.

The review signals NITI Aayog's commitment to supporting Ladakh's administrative machinery in formulating development strategies that align with national priorities while addressing the region's specific socioeconomic needs.
