LUCENA CITY — Laguna de Bay's water level continued its upward trend Tuesday, surpassing the critical high-water mark at 12.73 meters as of early afternoon, according to the Laguna Lake Development Authority (LLDA).
The LLDA issued an advisory at 1:15 p.m. attributing the sustained rise in lake elevation to persistent heavy rains affecting the region. The water level's breach of the critical threshold raises concerns about potential flooding in surrounding communities and low-lying areas that depend on the lake.
Laguna de Bay, the nation's largest freshwater lake, serves as a critical resource for irrigation, fisheries, and water supply across the region. The LLDA monitors water levels continuously to manage flood risks and coordinate with local government units on emergency preparedness measures.
