LUCENA CITY — The water level at Laguna de Bay fell below the critical-high mark Thursday morning, marking the first time in more than a month that the massive freshwater lake has dipped below the dangerous threshold.

The Laguna Lake Development Authority recorded a water level of 12.41 meters at 8:30 a.m., placing the measurement nine centimeters below the 12.50-meter critical-high level. The reading provides some relief to communities surrounding the lake that had faced sustained flooding concerns during the extended high-water period.

The extended period above the critical mark had prompted heightened monitoring and precautionary measures across the region. Communities dependent on the lake for water supply and those vulnerable to overflow had remained on alert throughout the duration of elevated water levels.

The LLDA continues to monitor conditions at Laguna de Bay as weather patterns and seasonal factors influence water levels across the 93,000-hectare lake, which serves as a critical resource for millions of residents in the Calabarzon region and Metro Manila.
