Laguna de Bay water level drops amid El Niño-driven drought conditions

LUCENA CITY — Laguna de Bay's water level has fallen to 12.08 meters as persistent dry conditions linked to El Niño weather patterns continue to affect the region, the Laguna Lake Development Authority said Monday.

The decline represents a drop from the 12.18 meters recorded on October 21, signaling an accelerating downward trajectory for the country's largest freshwater lake, which serves as a critical water source for millions of residents and industries across the Calabarzon region.

The LLDA, which monitors and manages the lake's water resources, attributed the sustained decrease to prevailing dry conditions associated with the El Niño phenomenon. The authority has issued advisories alerting stakeholders to the changing water levels as dry season conditions intensify across the region.

The declining water levels pose potential concerns for agriculture, power generation, and water supply systems that depend on the lake. Authorities have not yet announced specific conservation measures, though the LLDA advisory underscores the need for water management preparations as the dry season persists.
