MANILA — A formal graft complaint was lodged against Laguna Governor Sol Aragones on Monday over alleged irregularities in a provincial program that allocated P11.5 million for free civil service examination review classes.
The complaint, filed before the Office of the Ombudsman, was initiated by Laguna Board Member Lorenzo Zuñiga and other complainants who questioned how the funds were managed and utilized. According to the allegations, the program, which was designed to benefit civil service examination aspirants, involved questionable administrative practices that warrant investigation.
The complainants contend that the review class program deviated from its intended purpose of providing accessible examination preparation services to qualified individuals in the province. The nature of the alleged irregularities and the specific findings that prompted the complaint remain subject to the Ombudsman's review process.
Governor Aragones has not yet issued a public response to the accusations. The Office of the Ombudsman is expected to conduct a preliminary investigation into the matter to determine whether sufficient grounds exist to pursue formal charges against the provincial official.
