Lanao del Sur to host town halls for Marawi siege families

MARAWI CITY — Officials from the provincial government of Lanao del Sur have announced plans to conduct town hall meetings in three Mindanao cities as part of efforts to address the needs of families whose relatives went missing during the 2017 Marawi siege.

The comprehensive outreach program seeks to provide information and assistance to bereaved families in identifying and locating their loved ones who disappeared during the five-month conflict that devastated the city. The initiative represents a continued commitment to addressing the humanitarian concerns stemming from one of the Philippines' most destructive urban conflicts in recent years.

According to provincial officials, the preparations for the town halls were discussed during the 10th meeting of a technical committee tasked with coordinating government response efforts. The meetings will serve as a platform for families to access support services and obtain updates on identification efforts and government assistance programs.

The 2017 Marawi siege resulted in significant casualties and displacement, with numerous persons still unaccounted for. The town hall meetings underscore ongoing provincial and national efforts to provide closure and support to affected families while maintaining focus on documenting and identifying the missing.
