Lanao del Sur Vice Mayor Arrested on Murder Charges

Vice Mayor Eli Eskandar Unte Alonto III, known locally as Bimmy Alonto, was arrested by Philippine National Police operatives and local law enforcement authorities at the Crystal Inn in Barangay on Friday.

The apprehension followed charges filed against the Marantao town official for murder and frustrated murder, though specific details regarding the incidents remain under investigation.

The arrest underscores ongoing concerns about criminal accountability among local government officials in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). The case has been turned over to the appropriate prosecutorial and judicial authorities for further proceedings.

The vice mayor is currently in police custody pending inquest and the filing of formal charges before the courts.
