KAUSWAGAN, Lanao del Norte – The municipality of Kauswagan is ramping up preparations for the projected super El Niño by deploying a P30-million solar power facility designed to ensure energy security during the drought season. Vice Mayor Rommel Arnado said municipal officials have accelerated readiness measures as El Niño conditions loom.

The solar installation represents a strategic pivot toward renewable energy while addressing vulnerability to prolonged dry spells that typically accompany El Niño events. The facility is scheduled to become operational within the coming weeks, providing the municipality with an alternative power source independent of conventional grid constraints.

Kauswagan, which has rebuilt substantially since periods of conflict, is positioning itself as a climate-resilient community through infrastructure investments. The solar project aligns with broader efforts across Mindanao to strengthen disaster preparedness and resource management ahead of anticipated weather disruptions.

Local officials have underscored the importance of diversified energy solutions in safeguarding essential services and maintaining economic stability during El Niño episodes, which have historically impacted agricultural output and water availability across the region.
