Land dispute in Bihar escalates to gunfire; one injured

A confrontation over land ownership in Panchobh area of Darbhanga district escalated into an armed clash, with witnesses reporting eight to ten rounds of gunfire exchanged between two groups, authorities said.

Vijay Bhagat sustained injuries from the shooting and was admitted to Darbhanga Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) for treatment. The incident was captured on CCTV footage, which has been reviewed by local law enforcement.

Police said the dispute stems from a property registration conflict, with both parties claiming ownership of the same plot of land. The initial confrontation began with physical violence using sticks and wooden clubs before escalating to firearms, according to preliminary reports.

Neither party has formally filed a complaint with police regarding the incident as of late Thursday. Authorities are continuing their investigation and attempting to secure statements from both sides involved in the altercation. The exact circumstances that triggered the gunfire remained unclear.
