Landfill collapse in Guinea's capital kills 30, destroys homes

A massive landfill in Conakry gave way following heavy rainfall, burying nearby residential structures under tons of debris. Emergency services responded to the scene, where rescue efforts were hampered by the unstable conditions created by the collapse.

The death toll reached at least 30, with six people reported injured in the incident. Local authorities confirmed that several homes in the vicinity of the landfill were destroyed or severely damaged by the falling waste material.

The collapse underscores ongoing concerns about waste management infrastructure in West Africa's rapidly growing urban centers. Conakry, Guinea's capital and largest city, has struggled with proper disposal facilities as its population continues to expand.
