Residents and officials across four central highlands districts have been advised to exercise heightened vigilance following the issuance of Level II (Amber) landslide early warnings by the National Building Research Institute (NBRI). The alerts apply to Kandy, Kegalle, Matale and Ratnapura, encompassing multiple divisional secretariat areas and their surrounding regions. The warning period extends from 10 p.m. on October 3rd through 10 p.m. on October 4th, 2026.

Level II warnings indicate a heightened risk of landslide activity and typically precede more severe conditions. Residents in vulnerable areas are urged to remain alert and monitor official updates as weather patterns develop. The NBRI issues such warnings based on meteorological forecasts, soil conditions and topographical analysis across the affected zones.

Local authorities in the four districts have been notified to implement precautionary measures and ensure emergency response readiness. The alerts underscore the importance of preparedness during periods of elevated landslide risk, particularly given the challenging terrain characteristic of Sri Lanka's central highlands region. Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel through vulnerable areas and to adhere to guidance issued by local disaster management officials.
