The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has activated landslide early warning systems for multiple districts, citing ongoing unfavourable meteorological conditions as the primary concern. The alerts are scheduled to remain active until 10:00 p.m. today.
Two alert levels have been implemented. Level 2, designated as 'Be Alert' with an amber warning classification, indicates heightened risk in certain zones, while Level 1, classified as 'Remain Vigilant' with a yellow warning, applies to additional affected areas. These tiered alerts enable authorities to calibrate responses according to localized risk assessments.
Residents and motorists in the affected districts have been advised to exercise heightened caution and remain updated on official guidance. Authorities recommend that people avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas and monitor conditions closely. The NBRO continues to monitor weather patterns and geological indicators, with warnings subject to revision based on evolving conditions.
The alert system forms part of Sri Lanka's disaster risk management framework, designed to provide advance notice of potential landslide activity during periods of heavy rainfall and atmospheric instability. Residents are encouraged to report any signs of ground movement or instability to local authorities immediately.
