Laoag distributes emergency response vehicles to all barangays

SAN ILDEFONSO, Ilocos Sur — Laoag City has launched a vehicle distribution program aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness across all its barangays. The city government announced Monday that it had begun issuing the first batch of multipurpose vehicles to the city's 80 barangays, marking a significant investment in local disaster response and public safety infrastructure.

The initiative seeks to equip each barangay with transportation assets capable of supporting emergency operations, medical evacuations, and other critical community needs. City officials said the vehicles would enable faster response times during calamities and natural disasters while also serving routine municipal functions.

The vehicle procurement program was funded through city government resources. Officials noted that the distribution represents a comprehensive effort to ensure that even remote barangays have adequate assets for emergency management and community welfare operations.

Laoag City, which faces periodic threats from typhoons and flooding, has prioritized disaster preparedness in recent years. The new vehicle fleet is expected to complement existing barangay disaster risk reduction and management programs and improve coordination between the city government and grassroots units during emergencies.
