LAOAG CITY — The City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) has evacuated residents from Sampaloc Village in Barangay 2 as a precautionary measure against potential flooding caused by rising water levels, officials said.
The CDRRMO, headed by Dr. Melvin D. Manuel, coordinated the evacuation effort with the Department of Public Services to move residents from the flood-prone area to safety as inclement weather persisted in the region.
The preemptive evacuation reflects local authorities' commitment to disaster preparedness during the rainy season, when low-lying communities face heightened flood risks. Officials did not immediately specify the total number of residents relocated or the duration of the evacuation.
The move comes as the Ilocos region continues to experience unsettled weather conditions. Laoag residents in other vulnerable areas are advised to monitor updates from the CDRRMO regarding flood risks and possible evacuation orders.
