Laos PM hails Unitel's role driving telecoms, digital transformation

Prime Minister Le Minh Hung commended Unitel's management, officials and workforce for their commitment to expanding Laos' digital infrastructure, underscoring the company's pivotal role in the nation's telecommunications landscape.

In his remarks, the PM emphasized that Unitel must maintain resolute determination to surmount obstacles facing the sector and maximize its contribution to economic development across Laos and the broader region.

Unitel, recognized as Laos' leading telecom network operator, has expanded its footprint beyond traditional mobile services. The company recently established Unitel Logistics, marking its entry into the logistics sector and diversifying revenue streams amid growing demand for integrated telecommunications and supply chain solutions.

The recognition comes as parent company Viettel, the Vietnamese state-owned telecom giant, continues its international expansion. Viettel's operations in Laos represent its 11th international market, with the conglomerate also eyeing strategic telecommunications investments in the Caribbean region.

The government's endorsement reflects Laos' broader commitment to leveraging private sector expertise in building digital infrastructure essential for economic competitiveness and regional integration.
