Large police operation targets corruption at Kanpur RTO office

A coordinated enforcement action by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and district administration targeted the Kanpur Regional Transport Office on Wednesday as part of an ongoing crackdown against alleged corruption and brokerage rackets. The operation involved more than 50 police personnel who cordoned off the entire premises and deployed aerial surveillance to monitor movements during the raid.

Authorities moved swiftly to secure the office complex following mounting complaints from the public about malpractices at the transport department. Investigators focused their attention on administrative staff suspected of involvement in facilitating illegal transactions and demanding payments outside official channels.

During the operation, officials recovered documents indicating irregular practices from the desks of at least two employees. The findings have prompted the preliminary detention of 8-10 individuals for questioning as authorities piece together evidence of the alleged misconduct.

The raid marks an intensified response by state officials to address long-standing grievances about the functioning of the Kanpur RTO, where citizens have repeatedly reported delays, unnecessary procedural obstacles, and unofficial fee demands. The investigation is continuing as authorities examine seized documents and conduct further questioning of those detained.
