MANILA — ACT Teachers Representative Antonio Tinio appealed to the Department of Budget and Management on Thursday to follow through with plans to seek an increase in the monthly allowance for state workers in 2027.

Tinio's statement followed remarks by budget officials during a committee hearing in which they indicated the DBM was conducting a review of the government employee allowance system. The lawmaker stressed the importance of prioritizing this proposal in the upcoming fiscal year.

The appeal underscores ongoing discussions about compensation and benefits for the country's civil service workforce. Government employees have long sought improvements to their allowances as part of broader efforts to enhance their economic welfare and competitiveness with private sector compensation.

The DBM is expected to finalize its position on the proposed allowance increase as budget deliberations continue in Congress ahead of the 2027 fiscal year preparations.
